RENOVATION PROJECT

Finally, the final phase of our long term property upgrade project is in fill swing.  This will conclude the new building project started 2 years ago.  The final phase will include:

  • New retaining wall
  • New LED parking lot lighting
  • Underground water retention system for the new building
  • Complete re-grading of the entire property
  • Full re-paving of the parking lot

FIRE DISTRICT No. 1 INSPECTION

The Commissioners of Fire District No. 1 conducted the annual inspection of the four fire stations. Inspection day kicked off at Somerset Fire & Rescue Co. 1.   The Commissioners checked various items for compliance such as, apparatus cleanliness, NFPA compliance, record keeping, facility conditions and personel inspection.  Somerset Fire & Rescue members in attendance were proud to display our facilities and apparatus in spotless condition.  All the hard work showed and was noted by the Commissioners.  Great work by all the Somerset members who worked all week and stood for inspection, great work!

RIC ASSIGNMENT INTO BRIDGEWATER

On Monday, September 18, 2017 Somerset Fire & Rescue and Elizabeth Avenue Fire were dispatched to a 2nd alarm structure fire in the Finderne section of Bridgewater Township.  Rescue 56 and Ladder 26 responded as a Rapid Intervention Company. The crews remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes.

On September  8-10, 2017 members from Somerset Fire & Rescue, Elizabeth Avenue Fire, Community Fire/Rescue, Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention and Franklin Park Fire attended a 3 day course on structural collapse training hosted by Somerset Fire at the Somerset Firehouse.  This 3-day class conducted by Safety and Survival Training LLC.  This multi-day training covered the skills to certify the attendees to the awareness and operations level.  All of the members from the different departments worked seamlessly to make this class an enormous success.  We look forward to having S&ST LLC. back soon for future classes.  

Car into Building

Monday, June 26, 2017 – 80 Cottontail Lane, Somerset, NJ

At approximately 19:47 hours Station 26 and 56 were dispatched to a car into a building at 80 Cottontail Lane, Somerset.  Upon the arrival of the the first fire units, it was determined that the exterior facade and window assemblies of the building were compromised. This condition prohibited the vehicle from being removed safely without emergency shoring.  Deputy Chief Scott (Car 26-2) assumed command of the incident.  Chief Sudo (Car 56) took over incident operations. Car 56-2 (DC. Gardner), R-56, E56-2, U56 w/ Technical Rescue Trailer 56, L-26 and other support units inserted emergency shoring to support the damaged area so the vehicle could be removed.  The operation lasted approximately 2 hours, there were no reported serious injuries.  

 

Passing of President Louis Hajdu-Nemeth

It is with profound sadness Somerset Fire & Rescue Co. No. 1 announces the passing of President Louis Hajdu-Nemeth on Sunday,  April 30, 2017.  Lou leaves a distinguished fire service legacy as the President of Somerset Fire and Rescue Co. No. 1.  Lou was a Past Chief of the Middlebush Fire Department. Lou also served as a Commissioner of Fire District No. 1.  Lou leaves behind a wife, two sons, a daughter and a new grandchild.

2nd Alarm Structure Fire

3/2/17 – 15:32  Fire District No. 1 companies were dispatched to a possible structure fire at 397 Windfall Ln.  While responding a working fire was confirmed by FM8-E.  Car 26 (Fredericks) upgraded the call to what would eventually become 2 full alarms.  The first arriving units immediately established a water supply, protected the exposure buildings and deployed multiple heavy water streams on the fire building.  The main body of fire was under control in approximately 30 minutes.  The crews remained on the scene for a few hours to completely extinguish the fire with the assistance of a piece of heavy equipment.  No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Franklin Township Fire Prevention Department.
